First produce of the year: rhubarb!

I am always surprised to take things home from the allotment. This feeling comes from the first year which is still fresh in my mind. That year was mostly digging work and removing grass.

This year, on my first real day down at the allotment the finest rhubarb was ready for picking.

I took 8 stems.Carefully counted and chosen from the early rhubarb plant. Only those stems that would thin out the plant. This is the gift that will keep on giving over the next month or so until the late rhubarb plant will be ready.

This crop will be made into rhubarb crumble later.
